Level A Suit Testing

Suit Testing Services

Manufacturers of Level A suits recommend pressure testing of suits on at least an annual basis, and also after each use.

We follow the ASTM F1052 Pressure Test Method.

Our technicians perform tests to establish the gas-tight integrity of a totally encapsulated Level A chemical suit. Additionally, a visual inspection is performed allowing us to identify any wear or other defects in the material.

  • We can perform our Level A suit service on-site, or at our calibration lab.
  • Level A Suit TestingOur suit testing can be combined with other on-site services for cost and time efficiency.
  • We provide you full documentation for record keeping and OSHA compliance.

What are Level A Suits?

Level A suits are a type of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Level A suites are designed to provide the highest level of protection against hazardous materials, including chemicals, gases, and biological agents. These suits are typically used in situations where there is a high risk of exposure to toxic or dangerous substances. They are often worn by emergency responders, hazmat teams, and personnel working in the chemical, oil and gas, and nuclear industries.

It's important to note that since Level A suits are the highest level of protection available; they are typically reserved for the most hazardous situations. The selection of the appropriate level of protection depends on the specific hazards present in a given situation. Lower-level suits, such as Level B or Level C suits, may be used when the risk is lower or when less protection is required.

Proper training and procedures are essential when using Level A suits. Training ensure the safety of the wearer and those in the vicinity, as improper use can still lead to exposure to hazardous materials.

Here are some key characteristics and components of Level A suits:

  1. Full Encapsulation: Level A suits provide complete body coverage, including the head, face, and respiratory system. They are designed to encapsulate the wearer entirely, leaving no exposed skin.
  2. Chemical-Resistant Materials: These suits are made from materials that are highly resistant to chemicals, including acids, bases, and toxic gases. Common materials used in Level A suits include butyl rubber, neoprene, and polyethylene.
  3. Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA): A self-contained breathing apparatus allows the wearer to breathe clean, filtered air independently of the external environment. This ensures that the wearer is not exposed to contaminated air.
  4. Sealed Seams and Zippers: The seams and zippers of Level A suits are sealed to prevent any potential entry of hazardous substances. This helps maintain the integrity of the suit's protective barrier.
  5. Gloves and Boots: Chemical-resistant gloves and boots are typically integrated into the suit itself. These gloves and boots are designed to provide a tight seal, preventing any contact with the hazardous material.
  6. Communication Systems: Suits often include communication systems to allow wearers to stay in contact with their team members and command centers. This is crucial for coordinating activities and ensuring safety during operations.
  7. Visor and Face Protection: The suits have a visor or face shield to protect the wearer's face and eyes from splashes, aerosols, and other hazards. The visor may be made of materials like polycarbonate.
  8. Durability: Level A suits are designed to be durable and withstand harsh conditions. They are built to resist abrasions, tears, and punctures.
